JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A walking and bike trail that has been years in the making is moving on to phases three and four.
The Greenway Trail is something the city of the Jonesboro has been working on in phases over several years.
Phase three runs along Craighead Forest Road and phase four is along Harrisburg Road.
It's a master plan of an over 26-mile walking and bike trail that runs throughout the city, connecting A-State, Downtown Jonesboro, Craighead Forest Park, and The Mall at Turtle Creek.
"I think it's going to offer two or three things," Mayor Harold Perrin said. "One, safety for people who want to walk, as well as those who ride a bike, the second thing is connectivity of Arkansas State to downtown."
Phase three is fully funded with construction in progress, and the city just secured another TAP grant to fund phase four.
It's a $399,000 grant for a 20 percent match, meaning the city will pay nearly $100,000 for a total of just under $500,000.
Next, Mayor Perrin wants to focus on securing funding for the trail between A-State and downtown Jonesboro.
