JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -Downtown Jonesboro is getting brighter and brighter.
More efficient lighting has been installed in the area for downtown visitors and business owners.
LED lighting is being used to replace the outdated street lamps in lots off of Monroe Street between East and North Church Streets.
Other locations are south of the Municipal Center between East and Church Streets, north of the Municipal Center by Cate and Church Streets, across from Chef’s In along Burke and Main Streets and also the lot on the corner of Huntington and Union Street.
But those aren’t the only lights seen downtown.
Main Street is also full of the Christmas spirit, decked out with colorful LED lighting to celebrate the holidays.
Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin said the new lighting makes the downtown area look more attractive and makes people feel safer.
“I think this gives us an entirely fresh appearance downtown,” Perrin said. “Our maintenance department worked extra hard to get this project done.”
