SHARP & INDEPENDENCE CO, AR (KAIT) - Another round of winter weather is expected and road conditions are being watched closely.
District 5 Engineer at Arkansas Department of Transportation in Batesville Bruce Street said the rain is a factor on whether or not they should use brine to treat the roads.
“Currently we are monitoring the situation," Street said. “We will start putting out salt if the rain continues. If it dries up enough, we can use brine then we will go back out and set brine out which gives us a breaking layer between the ice and the road concerns.”
Sharp County Judge Gene Moore said because of the hills, driving on the roads can be difficult during ice storms.
He recommends people stay home and don’t get out in it.
“Stay home if you can during the icy road conditions,” Moore said. “If you can’t and have to get out, be sure to watch your speed. Slow down, be careful with the brakes and be aware of your surroundings.”
Judge Moore said, like officials with ARDOT, he is also watching the weather to determine what can or cannot be done to make the roads safe for travelers.
