LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT/KARK) - The owner of a restaurant in the state’s capital city say they are working to set an environmental example for its customers by not using plastic straws with any of its meals.
According to a report from Little Rock television station KARK, the Root Cafe in Little Rock has offered reusable napkins, biodegradable to-go containers, and local food vendors as part of its business model.
Now, the restaurant is working on a plan “Plastic Free Little Rock” to get other restaurants to follow suit. Supporters say plastic straws take nearly 50 years to decompose, which is why they are asking that restaurants give out straws by request only.
The restaurant on South Main Street is in the SOMA District, with restaurants there working on a plan to make it the first plastic straw-free street in the city, KARK reported.
