Trumann Elementary students help kids in need

TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - Students and employee’s at Trumann Elementary are helping families in need over the holidays.

They are hosting their 2nd annual Santa’s Sleigh Food Drive from Dec. 10 through the 14.

The food collected will be donated to the school's backpack program and to a local food pantry.

Elementary Principal Michael Allen stresses the importance of this drive for kids and their families.

“You know the kids are asking for it," Allen said. "You know coming up on the Christmas season we're looking at two weeks of no school so that’s two weeks of kids who may or may not have ample food over the Holiday.”

Appropriate foods consist of nonperishable items such as peanut butter, beef jerky, mac and cheese, Ramen noodles and fruit cups.

Donations are accepted at the counselors' office and placed under the schools Christmas tree in the center of the hall.
