WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - The interim police chief in Walnut Ridge will be given the job on a permanent basis, according to a council agenda released Wednesday.

At its meeting Dec. 17, Walnut Ridge council members are expected to hear about the appointment of Jordan Cooksey for the job. Cooksey, who served as interim chief, will serve as the top law enforcement official in the Lawrence County town.

“The appointment of Interim Police Chief Jordan Cooksey to serve as Police Chief will be entered in council minutes,” the agenda noted. “This is an update on action taken last week and no vote is required.”

Cooksey will replace Chris Kirksey, who resigned earlier this year in the aftermath of a lawsuit filed by Adam Finley. Finley alleged in the suit that he was harassed, assaulted and unlawful arrested by Walnut Ridge police during a Dec. 2016 incident.
