MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) - While some of us haven’t even put up our Christmas trees, the fine folks at Bull Shoals and Norfork Lakes know what you can do with them once the holidays are over.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced it will once again collect discarded Christmas trees to use as fish cover.
Those wishing to improve the fish habitats just need to drop their trees off at any boat ramp on Norfork or Bull Shoals. The corps just asks that you do not block the ramp or parking areas.
All trees, according to a news release, must be real and must be free of ornaments and tinsel, which could harm the fish.
Anyone wanting to use the trees to provide shelter for fish or to serve as attractors for recreational fishing are welcome to pick them up.
Corps personnel will sink any unclaimed trees at a later time.
