INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The 9-1-1 Dispatch Center in Independence County is getting a new and life saving form of technology.
Solacom’s integration with RapidSOS provides precision in determining a mobile caller’s location, immediately tracking a caller in emergency situations.
Instead of a larger circle of location, a caller’s location is now pinpointed to a specific location within that larger area.
This will greatly enhancing a telecommunicator’s ability to ensure that assistance is on the way in emergency situations.
9-1-1 Director in Independence County Brian Presley said this system is invaluable.
“It’s able to extract that information from the cell phone," Presley said. "It shows what its latitude and longitude is and tell us exactly where its at.”
So how does this work?
Two independent sources of location information are used to heighten the accuracy of the location.
The wireless carrier network delivers emergency caller location information using the cellular network infrastructure.
That infrastructure is comprised of Mobile Switching Center (MSC) and Mobile Positioning Center (MPC).
“If you have a smartphone and you dial 9-1-1," Presley said. "The information location will be automatically turned on and activated to pinpoint the position.”
They expect the new system to be operational by Feb. 2019.
