CORNING, AR (KAIT) - The coroner, along with Arkansas State Police and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a fatal head-on collision Thursday morning north of Corning.
The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on Highway 67 near County Road 142.
According to a report released by the Arkansas State Police, 62-year-old Richard McGonigal was killed when his vehicle was struck by a semi-truck driven by 59-year-old Destan Rasitovik of Middletown, New York.
The accident forced the closure of the southbound lane of Highway 67 while crews worked to clear the scene.
Clay County Coroner Paul Hoggard was called to the scene, according to his office.
According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT), the southbound lane of Highway 67 remained closed more than an hour after the crash.
More than 2 hours after the crash, police reopened Highway 67.
