JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -Officers with Jonesboro Animal Control have dogs ready for adoption, but as much as they want them to find a home they want people to stop and think if you’re buying a dog for someone else.

Jonesboro Animal Control Corporal Jeff Moore said they see an increase in people wanting to adopt pets this time of the year, but he doesn’t suggest adoption as a surprise Christmas gift.

“You want everyone to meet the dog," Moore said. "Meet it before the dog goes home with a family.”

Moore said you need to do your homework in advance and know that adoption is a commitment.

“Make sure if you have another pet in your home or small children," Moore said. "Everyone needs to meet the pet first.”

Jonesboro Animal Control said adoptions have happened on the same day, but it depends on case by case scenarios.
