JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -7th and 8th grade students at Nettleton Junior High School participated in a math competition against 500 schools in the U.S. and Canada.
The competition was sponsored by Mangahigh, a math software program used at the school.
Students who earned the highest scores in the competition were recognized with a medal in the Performing Arts Center on campus.
Last year the students competed in the same contest and won second place, but this year they were bound and determined to earn the top spot.
Nettleton student Abil Delarosa said they reached out to everyone.
“We all got on social media telling our friends to get on Mangahigh and help the school out," Delarosa said. "Help us win this year, unlike last year, so that was pretty much the motivation that we had.”
70 students earned enough points to receive a medal and an Amazon gift card worth $1,000 dollars.
That money will go towards the schools math department.
The principal and teachers treated the students to a free movie during school hours followed by a presentation of the awards.
