GREENE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -A Region 8 county just moved into the “storm ready” classification.
Director for the Greene County Office of Emergency Management Erik Wright said this is positive recognition from the National Weather Service.
This means that NWS is recognizing Greene County’s abilities to educate and disseminate information to their citizens.
To qualify for such a position, there are a number of different criteria you must meet depending on the size of the area.
Wright said this was a collaborative effort between his office and Paragould 911 Director Mike McCannon.
Two things Wright mentioned that helped the county achieve this status was the Emergency Operation Center and Warning Point System that has been put into place.
Wright said there will be a formal ceremony with the representatives from the National Weather Service, county and city officials sometime in January.
