JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Spending the holidays with family is supposed to be a joyful time. But some doctors say the busy season can be stressful, leading to a blue Christmas.
Between working extra shifts, traveling, and spending time with friends and family, the stress tends to build up to toxic levels.
Therapist Orley Bills says it’s important to take care of yourself.
"Find moments of silence, if you're in a family party or a long drive with lots of screaming kids," Bills suggests.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, it's okay to decline invitations or not attend holiday parties.
Orley recommends picking two or three goals that are important to you and make sure you stick to those goals.
If stress gets to the point that you can’t cope with everyday life, seek professional help.
