Red Wolves WR Jonathan Adams joins A-State hoops, A-State ladies back home to tip SBC play

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State basketball as a new addition to the roster before Sun Belt play.

Jonathan Adams practiced with the Red Wolves Tuesday morning. The A-State wide receiver was in his 2nd workout with scarlet and black hoops.

Adams was a three-sport star at Jonesboro High (football, basketball, track). He was a All-State basketball selection in 2016 and 2017.

I asked Mike Balado how the conversation began with the newest two-sport Red Wolf.

“Well Jay has always loved basketball, and he came to me and asked me, wanted to play,” Balado said. “Coach Anderson and I spoke, he’s been excellent. Big time athlete, and he picks up stuff really quickly, very intelligent kid. We’re excited to have him here."

Adams is listed as a sophomore guard. In terms of role with the Red Wolves? “Right now, any role that sees fit,” Balado said. "He’s a big time rebounder and defender right now, and can score a little bit around the basket. But we’re slowly but surely bring him into it. It’s hard to pick up a lot of stuff quickly, but he’s doing a pretty good job of it so far.”

Arkansas State tips off Sun Belt play Thursday with a trip to Louisiana. Tipoff is at 7:00pm, the game can be seen on ESPN+.
