LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) - Eleven flu-related deaths have been reported in Arkansas since the start of the current flu season.
According to the weekly flu report from the Arkansas Department of Health, the state reported “regional” flu activity to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Of the 11 people who have died in the state, there has been one pediatric death.
According to the CDC there have been 13 pediatric flu deaths in the U.S. so far this year.
More than 2,700 positive flu tests have been reported to the ADH’s online database since Sept. 30, 2018.
So far this year, 48 counties have confirmed flu cases, with the majority in Benton, Craighead, Faulkner, Garland, Lonoke, Ouachita, Pulaski, Saline, Sebastian, Van Buren, and Washington.
For the last week of 2018, 24 states reported widespread flu activity, 18 states reported regional flu activity, six states reported local flu activity, and two states reported sporadic flu activity.
