JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro man appeared in court after his arrest on suspicion of raping a 13-year-old victim, police said Thursday.

A $50,000 cash/surety bond was set for Austin Alton Bruce of Jonesboro during his court appearance. According to a probable cause affidavit, Brookland police received a report Jan. 4 about the rape.

The Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Unit interviewed the victim about the case. The victim told investigators the incident happened Dec. 30 at a home in Brookland and that the victim had been given alcohol and marijuana.

“The victim stated the suspect had lied about his age, stating he was 16 years old, and then took the victim into a bedroom in the residence,” the affidavit noted.

Investigators then obtained a search warrant for the residence and recovered evidence in the case, police said in the affidavit.

In addition to the bond, District Judge David Boling issued a no-contact order between Bruce and the victim in the case.

Bruce will appear in circuit court on Feb. 22.
