JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A local cupcake store will not be closing its doors as its corporate offices is planning to file for bankruptcy.

Mark Morgan, the owner of Gigi’s Cupcakes in Jonesboro, said Jan. 9 that the announcement that Gigi’s Cupcakes is seeking protection will have no bearing on the Jonesboro store.

“This will not have an affect on the operations of the local Gigi’s. We are open,” Morgan said in a statement to Region 8 News. “We will remain open and we are happy to serve you as usual. We are a locally owned business. We’re not a corporate store. We will operate as normal.”

An industry publication, Nation’s Restaurant News, reported that Gigi’s had liabilities between $1 million and $10 million in its filing, which was done earlier this month in Texas.
