JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A program designed to create a shared reading experience within a school community has been embraced by one Region 8 school.

Walnut Ridge Elementary School has participated in “One School, One Book” for eight consecutive years.

The program, “One School, One Book,” allows every family in the elementary school to receive a copy of the chosen book.

Each family is then given a schedule and reads at home over the course of a single month.

Activities at school coordinate to the selected book and promote, and enrich the shared reading experience.

The kickoff assembly for this year’s program at Walnut Ridge Elementary School was held on January 7.

Preschool through fourth grade students watched as the committee introduced the book, “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane,” with a brief skit.

The school was recently featured in the newsletter from the national “Read to Them” program.
