JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State was without a defensive coordinator for less than 24 hours.
The Red Wolves announced Tuesday afternoon that David Duggan would be the new DC. He comes to Jonesboro after 3 seasons at Western Michigan. Duggan served as the Broncos linebackers coach along with being special teams coordinator.
Duggan worked with Blake Anderson on Larry Fedora’s staff at Southern Miss from 2008-2011. David was USM linebackers coach from 2008-2010, co-defensive coordinator in 2011. He returned to Hattiesburg in 2013 as defensive coordinator. Duggan’s defense was key to USM’s 6 win turnaround (3-9 in 2014, 9-5 in 2015) and winning the C-USA West Division title.
Blake Anderson promoted a Red Wolf great today. Brandon Joiner will be the new A-State defensive ends coach. Joiner served as a grad assistant in 2018. The players will learn from the 2011 Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year.
Brandon has some NFL experience too, playing in the 2013 and 2014 preseason with the Bengals.
Assistant head coach Trooper Taylor may be on the move. Football Scoop reported that Taylor is heading to Duke as wide receivers coach.
There’s plenty of connections with the reported move. Trooper & Blue Devils head coach David Cutcliffe go way back, they were on Philip Fulmer’s staff at Tennessee. Taylor’s son Blaise spent 2018 season on the Duke coaching staff as a grad assistant.
