NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) - The Newport school board added a new position during their Tuesday night meeting.
The board voted to add a career coach for the district.
It is a position the district has work on with representatives from Arkansas State University–Newport.
ASU-Newport Chancellor Sandra Massey said the purpose of the position is to help guide graduating seniors to a productive future.
“The career coach will work directly with the high school, and they will work with the students at a very early age,” Massey said. “That starts exposing them to the pathway that leads to college.”
It is all in an effort to ensure students who want to go to college have a pathway to get there.
Newport will be the fifth school ASU-Newport has a career coach in.
