MARKED TREE, AR (KAIT) - A mom and her daughter face aggravated assault charges after police say the older woman pointed a gun at her grandchild’s dad and pulled the trigger.
Marked Tree police arrested 41-year-old Misty Gottschalk of Caraway Thursday on suspicion of aggravated assault. Officers also arrested her daughter, 25-year-old Briannah Nichole Morgan of Marked Tree, on the same charge plus endangering the welfare of a minor.
On Monday, Jan. 28, Poinsett County District Judge Ron Hunter found probable cause to arrest both women on charges stemming from an incident Saturday, Jan. 26, at Morgan’s estranged husband’s home.
According to the initial incident report, the victim and his three children were cleaning their home in Marked Tree when the two women arrived.
A witness told police Morgan went through the residence looking for her I.D. and throwing things around the home.
She and the victim, who was holding a 9-month-old child at the time, began to argue.
As he was handing the infant to the witness, the victim told police, “I heard a click like a gun had been cocked.”
The man said he turned around to find Gottschalk pointing a pistol in his face.
“It just clicked as she pulled the trigger,” he told investigators. “Her eyes got big and her mouth dropped, and she took off running out the door.”
As Gottschalk and Morgan were running away, the victim and the witness said they trampled a two-year-old child.
Another child who was in the home at the time of the alleged incident reported seeing Gottschalk aim the gun at the victim’s head and heard it “click.”
Both Gottschalk and Morgan are being held in the Poinsett County Detention Center awaiting their first appearance in court.
