JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Volunteers work with low-income families during tax season by helping file taxes for free.
Members of United Way of Northeast Arkansas said Tuesday they’re working to help those in need by offering them a service where every dollar can count.
Executive Director Nannette Heard said the purpose of this program is to provide help for free so they get every penny back that they can.
“Any money or funds that can be obtained for them, we want to do that,” Heard said. “We have great volunteers who have done this a lot. They prepare income taxes for free.”
Many of the people who receive these services struggle to make ends meet.
“We are dealing with people who don’t necessarily have anything to eat on a daily basis or maybe they’re choosing between medication or food,” Heard said.
“A lot of times the families are grandparents that are raising their children and so they are making those difficult decisions.”
Heard said in order to take part in this program, you need to make an appointment.
