JORDAN, NY (KAIT/NBC) - One classroom in New York is taking “creativity” to a whole new level.

The preschool class is teaching a lesson where kids can not only challenge their mind and body but, still have fun.

Mrs. Craig's classroom brings in a yoga instructor once a month to help students focus.

They get to work on their listening skills, following directions and learn how to move.

Yoga instructor Colleen Smith teaches the students poses such as the tree pose, which lets them learn how to balance on one foot.

“There is a lot that’s going on in those moments and all of that combined is great for them cognitively, socially they are learning how to be in a group and pay attention and listen,” said Smith.

Another neat lesson involves breathing.

Breathing buddies are placed on each student’s tummy which shows them how to “belly breathe” by taking in a full breath.

The district received a grant for the program and this is the third year that it has been active.
