MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -Thousands of families across Arkansas are more hopeful that one day soon they will hear three little words, “you are pregnant.”
A change in the University of Arkansas insurance system is making the cost of fertility treatment a lot more affordable. If a family happens to be struggling with fertility, the cost can range into the thousands to try to start a family.
“We have already seen an explosion of the number of patients that we have had that have come in who had their treatments on hold because financially they couldn’t afford it,” said UAMS Fertility Specialist Dr. Gloria Richard-Davis.
The system employees around 80,000 people, half of which are fully covered under its health insurance plan.
According to Fertility I-Q.com about 23 percent of U.S. companies implemented fertility benefits for 2019, compared to 10 percent last year.
