OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) - The Mississippi River is still rising at Osceola but the mayor says it has not affected schools or businesses.
Osceola Mayor Sally Wilson told Region 8 News Wednesday that they have seen an unbelievable amount of water.
She praised the street department’s work to keep the city drains cleared out.
Mississippi County Judge John Alan Nelson said that road crews have been coming in early and staying late to make repairs.
Judge Nelson said at least six roads in the county had to be closed due to damage from floodwaters and all but two have been fixed.
However, an ongoing problem for the city is that the ground is so saturated that retention ponds are still swollen.
Mayor Wilson said it does not appear that the water is covering roads in Osceola.
