JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - One Nettleton school teacher celebrated 50 years of teaching Tuesday and awarded for her efforts by the Jonesboro Rotary Club.
Bobbie Timmermann received the club’s Paul Harris Fellowship Award recognizing her lifelong work.
In her five decades at Nettleton High School, Timmermann spent the majority of her time in the same classroom teaching business classes.
Timmerman said the reward for teaching is seeing the impact she has on her students.
“I think you can just look around at the adults in our world and someone had an impact on those kids who are now our attorneys and our business people,” Timmermann said. “If you just think back, it starts with education, even in the lower grades. Look at our world today and someone has impacted them to get to where they are today.”
Her advice to younger teachers and educators is to love kids, have the desire to help them and want to see them succeed.
Timmermann estimates she has taught over 5,500 students in her 50 years and doesn’t plan on retiring any time soon.
