|About The Wood Ford StormTracker|
As the Region 8 StormTEAM continues to track severe storms that move through this area of the country, we add another tool to help keep you safe: The Wood Ford StormTRACKER. The most advanced vehicle in the Region 8 News fleet is a specially-outfitted Ford F-150 provided by Wood Ford Sales in Trumann, Arkansas. And at first glance, you'll see that this vehicle truly takes storm chasing seriously!
Inside the StormTRACKER and you will find the latest weather technology to keep our crews tracking storms out of harms way so they can get the latest information back to the Storm Center at the KAIT studios. Inside the Wood Ford StormTRACKER you will find:
This technology was custom designed exclusively for the Wood Ford StormTRACKER and is the only of its kind in the area. From Memphis to Springfield to Little Rock, no other broadcast television station has this type of technology to keep their viewers safe. It’s one more reason that KAIT is the only station to turn to when severe weather threatens.
Never has such a complicated process been so simple? When severe weather develops, crews from the Region 8 StormTEAM will take the StormTRACKER into the heart of developing severe storms. The computers and doppler radar systems on-board receive live, up to the second information from a network of satellites overhead through a mobile downlink mounted in the vehicle. The radar data allows the field crews to see the exact same information we see here in the Region 8 Storm Center. They see where storms are developing, how the winds are moving and where the largest hail may be falling. This, combined with what they see is all relayed back to the StormTEAM member on duty at the KAIT studios. They can also talk directly to local county Emergency Management Agencies and the National Weather Service in Memphis and Little Rock. All this is possible via the SkyWARN severe weather network which consists of an array of amateur radio links across the state. The video equipment in the StormTRACKER will also allow crews to take pictures of what they see and send those pictures back to the television station to be used in the Storm Center and on the air.
Even when driving, that same technology that allows crews to track storms in the field also allows them to send back the most important information: what they see! That’s right, what they see!
We designed the Wood Ford StormTRACKER for that exact reason. It allows us to send meteorologists out in the field where the weather is happening.
So we want you to get an up close look at our newest weather technology. If you are a teacher and would like to have a member of the StormTEAM visit your school or if you are planning an event and would like to have one of us stop by, just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Our Wood Ford StormTRACKER is just one more way that KAIT is working every day to keep you ahead of the storm!
