WASHINGTON (KAIT) - New numbers released by the White House Wednesday show Arkansas was on the receiving end of $23,402,500 from the Cash for Clunkers program, while Missouri netted $61,271,500.

According to the White House release, the CARS program took almost 700,000 clunkers off of the road. A total of $2.877 billion in rebate applications were submitted by 8 p.m. Tuesday, under the $3 billion set aside by Congress.

Toyota, followed by General Motors and Ford were the big winners of the program.

The White House Council of Economic Advisers' preliminary analysis says that the program will create or save 42,000 jobs in the second half of 2009. The analysis adds that those jobs are expected to remain well after the program's close.
