POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -- Friends and family of two-year-old Devin Fox are coping with the young boy's death.
On Tuesday, Heartland News learned the child died from injuries he received in a Sunday evening crash. Troopers with the Missouri Highway Patrol said Fox was in a vehicle that was hit head-on by a truck on highway 21 near Doniphan. He died late Monday night.
Troopers said the truck that hit the vehicle had just ran off the road and then got back on and swerved over the center line.
Now, family and friends want to make sure Devin's life had purpose, by living on through other children, touching as many lives as possible.
"Everyone here is devastated," said Sarah Seals. "We've not been normal since we found out."
Seals works with Devin's mother, Regina Roberts, at Kerr's Express gas station in Poplar Bluff. "I remember the last time I saw him playing," said Seals.
She said the staff and customers couldn't believe it when they heard the family was hit head on by a truck.
"His mom can't walk right now," said Lola Morelan, co-worker and friend. "She was going to college and trying to make a good live for her family."
We're told Devin's mother donated his organs so that other children could get a chance to live a full life.
"We want other kids to get the chances Devin didn't get," said Morelan.
Now the community is reaching out to the family. They're putting out donation jars to help with burial and medical expenses.
"Everyone here loves that family," said Morelan. "There's been a lot of tears."
You can find the donation jars at Kerr's Express gas station in Poplar Bluff. We're told a benefit auction is being planned.
