AAA lawyer: Immediate appeal unlikely in dispute

Associated Press - November 15, 2009 10:44 PM ET

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An attorney for the Arkansas Activities Association says he hasn't been asked to prepare any immediate appeal after a judge ruled the governing body couldn't shut Lamar High School out of the football playoffs.

The AAA has been weighing options since suspending the Class 3A playoffs last week. AAA attorney Ed McCorkle said Sunday night he doesn't know exactly what the organization will do, but he wasn't expecting to file any appeal Monday. McCorkle said last week he thought the playoffs would take place eventually.

Wadie Moore, assistant executive director of the AAA, said a decision could be announced as early as Monday.

A Pope County judge granted a preliminary injunction saying the AAA shouldn't have made Lamar forfeit six games in a dispute over a player's eligibility.
