Miss. St. secondary prepares for Arkansas' Mallett

Associated Press - November 19, 2009 7:24 PM ET

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi State defensive coordinator Carl Torbush is feeling a little jumpy.

That's what happens when Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett and the Southeastern Conference's top offense appear on the video screen the week after your secondary starts giving up long pass plays.

Mississippi State (4-6, 2-4 SEC) needs two more wins to become bowl eligible. After giving up three passes of more than 40 yards, including two for scores, against the Crimson Tide in a 31-3 loss, the Bulldogs understand they can't give up any more.

The Razorbacks' (6-4, 2-4) offense is averaging 310 yards passing per game. Mallett has hit 12 scoring passes of 23 or more yards with seven going for 40 or more and the Razorbacks have six games with multiple touchdowns.
