POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) – Leaders in Poplar Bluff passed a new law that changes the way you get cold medicine.
The Poplar Bluff City Council passed the new ordinance by a 6 to 1 margin Monday night after a heated debate. Several community members, pharmacists, doctors, and law enforcement all spoke before the council.
Residents of Poplar Bluff said they were worried it would take too long to get a prescription, and that the ordinance would create too much of a hassle if they get a cold. Doctors said several alternatives could treat the same symptoms.
Police say they now have the tools they need to fight against meth in the community.
Poplar Bluff is the first city in Southeast Missouri to pass a measure like this.
