JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - DISH Network customers can now watch KAIT through their satellite hookup.

The new option comes on the heels of years frustration from both us and you the viewers.

KAIT's general manger Tim Ingram says local news, weather and sports are important to many Region 8 residents and sometimes even crucial.

"When the tornadoes came through on Super Tuesday, you know they went through a very rural area of North Central Arkansas where a lot of folks had satellite. I had a lot of folks call me and say we're putting up an antenna because we missed our severe weather information. We missed not having you there to say 'get to your tornado safe spot,'" says Ingram.

Now, they don't have to put up that antenna anymore. For the first time, DISH Network Satellite is offering many of its Region 8 subscribers the opportunity to watch KAIT as part of their local channels package.

"Until recent legislation was passed by congress, we weren't able to do so and now we are able to bring all customers and potential customers in Jonesboro they're local stations," says Charlie Ergen the CEO for DISH Network. But, it's not just for Jonesboro; it's for most of the surrounding areas as well.

It's an effort Ingram says comes after a lot of hard work from many key players.

"Congressman Marion Berry was very integral in making this happen. Senator Mark Pryor also sat on the committee that made this happen. We've worked with our legislatures and congressman for three years to make sure we got this legislation passed to serve the people of Region 8."

Ingram says the frustrating journey is well worth the end result.

"These folks now have access to Amber Alerts, and they have access to severe weather information," says Ingram.

"Yes and you know I grew up in a small town, so I always realized that you don't always get treated exactly the same as when you are living in a small town or you rural America, and it's important to DISH Network that we treat all of our customers the same," says Ergen.

If you're a DISH subscriber KAIT won't automatically appear on your channel lineup. You'll have to request it by phone or online, and it will cost an extra $5.00 a month. Ingram believes that $5.00 may mean the difference between being safe or not. He's hoping all DISH customers choose to put KAIT back in their homes.

If you're a dish subscriber, you can call them at 1-800-894-9131 to request the local channels, or you can notify them on-line at www.dish.com

The local channels are now available in Izard, Clay, Craighead, Greene, Lawrence, Randolph, and Sharp Counties.

KAIT could even be picked up in some other surrounding counties, but that has not been confirmed by DISH officials.
