Wynne Investigator Named State Police ' Trooper Of The Year'

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Arkansas State Police Special Agent Dale Arnold, 47, of Wynne has been honored as the Arkansas State Police Trooper Of The Year for 2002.  Corporal Arnold is a 19-year State Police veteran, and was honored in ceremonies Thursday afternoon at ASP headquarters in North Little Rock.

"Law enforcement officers across east Arkansas are familiar with Special Agent Arnold's professionalism and dedication to service," said ASP Director Colonel Don Melton.  Melton noted that during 2002, Arnold opened 186 criminal cases, made 110 felony arrests, seized drugs estimated in value worth $111,770 and recovered more than $50,000 in stolen property.

Among the noteworthy cases headed up by Arnold in 2002 was a January triple homicide in St. Francis county that led to the arrest of three out-of-state fugitives.

Meanwhile, seven other State Police employees from Region 8 were also honored yesterday. 

-Special Agent Bobby Stabbs of Marion received an official commendation for his work in solving the disappearance of a Poinsett county teenager.

-Trooper First Class Richard West of Wynne was commended for his efforts in a July 2002 manhunt at Cotton Plant and his use of force in apprehending a homicide suspect.

-Trooper First Class Noah Shaw of Melbourne received an official commendation for his role in successfully negotiating the peaceful surrender of an armed suspect wanted in connection with two Baxter county home invasions.

-Special Agent Valentine Roberts of Imboden received a Distinguished Meritorious Service award for his tenacious commitment to his work as a criminal investigator.  During 2002, Roberts successfully made 23 arrests from 27 felony and six misdemeanor cases relating to the investigation of "child maltreatment."  Roberts attained a 100% conviction rate for the same reporting period.

-Trooper First Class Mike Kennedy of Forrest City was commended for his commitment to service and duty in St. Francis county during 2002.   Kennedy is credited with 110 felony arrests and 459 misdemeanor arrests last year.

-Special Agent Mack Thompson of Ash Flat was presented an official commendation for his investigative work in connection with a northeast Arkansas ring accused of forging and cashing stolen checks.

-Corporal Billy Ditto of Mountain View was commended for his role in the pursuit and arrest of an armed individual threatening to kill a Stone county man.
