JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-Two Arkansas residents are joining forces with other organizations to help save the lives of neglected animals.

David and Ty Smith of Jonesboro have been rescuing animals for about ten years. The Smiths recently came across a desperate case. Boston Terrier, Frank Sinatra, was found wandering the streets near Paragould.

Frank was treated at PAWS in Paragould, but time was running out. If Frank didn't find a home soon, he would be euthanized. The Smiths put a picture online at Pet finder and got a response.

Inga Irby from Second Chance Happy Tails in Clarksville, Tennessee called the Smiths to let them know she had found a home for Frank. The question now was how were they going to get him from Jonesboro, Arkansas to Tennessee.

Thursday they received some extra help from a special group of people called "Pilots n Paws." This organization is a group of pilots who volunteer their time and planes to transport rescued animals.

Ty says without organizations like this, animals like frank might not get the help they need.

"These gentleman that are coming today are from the olive branch area. They are both air traffic controllers and have their own aircraft and have decided to donate their wonderful time for this cause."

Pilot Marc Doss is from Olive Branch, Mississippi. He's been flying missions for "Pilots n Paws" for two years. Marc says when he first heard of the program through a fellow pilot, he felt it was a needed service.

"It's another reason to get up in the air and fly. We're always looking for excuses and we love animals. Put the two together and it's kind of a no brainer."

Ty and her husband have rescued around four hundred animals over the years, and says their reward is finding the animals a loving home.

"No money is involved. We do this for love of the animals."

Frank will first go to Second Hand Happy Tails for a transition period before meeting his new family.

Ty says there's a need for additional pilots. For more information about how you can help, log onto their website.
