CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Chattanooga leaders say they will chip in $300,000 and the federal government will add $400,000 more for a study of whether light rail transport would be worthwhile. One proposal calls for leaning heavily on existing tracks to which the city can acquire the rights if it opts for such a public transport system.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee Citizen Action has hired back its former executive director Mary Mancini to run a new get-out-the-vote effort. Mancini, who had left the advocacy group to make a bid for the state Senate, will serve as program director for the voting campaign.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee has received almost half a million dollars in federal grant money to spur efforts to stop worker misclassification. According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Labor, the money will help Tennessee's unemployment insurance tax programs identify instances where employees are misclassified as independent contractors.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - In recognition of National Public Lands Day, Tennessee State Parks are inviting the public to take part in hikes and volunteer activities across the state on Sept. 27. National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest one-day, volunteer stewardship event.
