KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Knoxville has been selected as the host city for the Vietnam Veterans of America Region III Conference. Visit Knoxville says the conference is scheduled to take place on March 26 through March 29, 2015, at the Downtown Hilton hotel.
ONEIDA, Tenn. (AP) - A storytelling event at an abandoned coal mining camp is planned by Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in September. The fourth annual Blue Heron Ghost Train Storytelling begins about 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Blue Heron Mining Community Interpretive Center near Stearns, Kentucky.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis has named Terri Lee Freeman to be its next president. Freeman succeeds Beverly Robertson and will begin her new position in early November.
NEW YORK (AP) - American Eagle says a mechanical problem forced one of its jets bound for Knoxville to make an emergency landing at New York's LaGuardia Airport just after takeoff. The airline says Flight 3340 landed safely back at the airport yesterday afternoon after a report of smoke in the cabin. There were no injuries.
