Survivors, Relatives to Dedicate Memorial to 1999 Little Rock Jet Crash Today

JUNE 1, 2004 - Posted at 7:21 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Five years ago today, American Airlines Flight 1420 crashed after landing at Little Rock National Airport.

This morning, survivors and relatives of victims of the jetliner crash are to dedicate a memorial near the airport.  Eleven died in the crash and scores were injured.

The monument is at the Aerospace Education Center across from the airport.

Crash survivor Charles Fuller says the group that worked to build the monument wanted the work to reflect that people have healed since the accident.

The aircraft landed in a thunderstorm and went off the runway.  The jet slammed into a steel walkway, broke apart and caught fire.  The flight captain was among the dead.
