Indian Mall Shopper Raise Money For Arkansas Children's Hospital

November 22, 2004 – Posted at 3:05 p.m. CST

JONESBORO -- Five dollars won't get you much these days, especially at the mall, but that wasn't the case at Indian Mall Sunday night.

“Every store has some kind of discount or door prize going on and also there's free gift wrapping,” said Jessica Bridger of the Jonesboro Circle of Friends

What if the mall opened up after hours just for you? And when you got there, you got free food while you strolled to beat of a live band. It’s too good to be true, right? Wrong, it’s the VIP treatment. All of the proceeds benefit Arkansas Children's Hospital and shoppers say that makes the deal even sweeter.

“It the time of year to do special things people are in the mood to give that extra money,” said shopper Jennifer Dycus.

Shopper Natalie Patterson said, “It's a time of giving, and I have two of my own kids and I know what I would feel like if it was on of my own kids.”

If you were naughty this year, you didn’t have to worry about the stores being nice.

“We have extra coupons and we're giving away three watches during our fundraiser,” said Casual Corner employee Linda Steele.

Zales offered an 10% discount, plus they gave away a 50 gift certificate. Other stores like Bath Junkie offered a 20% discount on mixed products. So that five dollars shoppers spent at the door, went right back into their pockets in savings.

“They won't miss that five dollars, but they will go home knowing they helped put a smile on some child's face who will be in the hospital for the holidays,” said Bridger.

The event raised close to $1100 dollars for Arkansas Children's Hospital.
