Offbeat: Big Game Hunter

December 15, 2005--Posted at 12:00 p.m. CDT

CHERRY VALLEY, AR--He's the "Great White Hunter" but he didn't even go on his first African Safari until he was 65.  Abner Clements is a farmer by trade, but his passion is hunting. He's been to Africa 5 times and his first 35 days in the bush he brought home 21 animals.

He's killed more than 250 animals and most of them are mounted inside his home.  Clements has added on to his house five times in order to make room for his next kills.  He's shot lions, elephants, rhinos, bears, hippos, elk, moose, caribou, warthogs, and every other exotic animal you can imagine.  Plus, he's killed 96 whitetale buck deer.

He's now 88 and still spends about 30 days a year in the woods, mostly after turkey and deer.  Clements says it all about the thrill of the hunt and putting action to your thoughts.  "If you wait until you can go a big game hunt, you'll never go.  You just have to quit talking about it and do it.," said Clements."
