Southern Hills Mall Site Now Back on Selling Block

MAY 15, 2006 - Posted at 3:52 p.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - The site that was once proposed as The Southern Hills Mall in southwest Jonesboro is up for sale again.

Jonesboro real estate agent Johnny White told K8 News today that the owners of the nearly 140-acre site along U.S. 49 are asking for just under $6.1 million for the property.

The land is owned by the Warmack family of Texarkana, Texas, which also owns Indian Mall in Jonesboro.

The Warmacks purchased most of the acreage in 2000, and later revealed plans for a new mall and retail center at the site.  Crews began clearing the land of timber and other vegetation a short time later, but the plans were eventually scrapped when the Warmacks were out-maneuvered by the Jonesboro-based Belz-Burrow development company, which recently opened The Mall at Turtle Creek.
