Reports of Death of Squidward's "Voice" Premature

AUGUST 28, 2006 - Posted at 2:50 p.m. CDT

HOLLYWOOD, CA - Rodger Bumpass says he's alive and kicking after all.  The man who is the voice of Squidward in the animated 'SpongeBob - Square Pants' cartoon television series was reported dead by KAIT and several other entities on Friday afternoon, but apparently those reports were premature.

Bumpass, a former KAIT employee and Arkansas State graduate who hosted 'Kumquat Theater' in the early 1970s, was reported to have died following an August 6 heart surgery in Los Angeles.  He was reported dead on the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB) Web site, as well as in a memorial tribute in the ASU Alumni Relations Newsletter.

Rodger Bumpass contacted ASU via phone and e-mail today, and assured us that he is alive and healthy.  KAIT regrets the error and apologizes to Mr. Bumpass, his family, friends and fans.
