Where's Andrew Golden?

MEMPHIS, TN - Somewhere in the United States, Andrew Golden is expected outside of prison for the first time today as a free man since he was taken into custody years before as an 11-year-old killer.

Golden was the younger of two boys who set off a school fire alarm at Westside Middle School near Jonesboro on March 24, 1998, then gunned down four classmates and a teacher as the children and staff filed out of the school building.  He was prosecuted as a juvenile, served time at the Alexander lock-up for juvenile offenders, then was moved to a federal prison to serve more time until he turned 21, which happened at midnight.

The other boy, Mitchell Johnson, followed the same route through the penal system and was released in 2005.  Johnson is now 22 and living in the Fayetteville area.

K8 News and our Raycom Media sister station, WMC, had crews stationed overnight at two exits at the Shelby County Penal Farm at Shelby Farms in Memphis, where there was some speculation that Golden might have been held prior to his release.  However, there has been no sighting of Golden at the facility.  A white, unmarked van was spotted leaving the facility at approximately 12:20 a.m., but there is no confirmation at this time that Golden was inside the vehicle.

Golden's immediate family no longer lives in the Jonesboro area, and has reportedly moved to the Mountain Home area.
