JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)  -- When you see a group of stunning red dresses displayed you are likely to stop, and that's the goal as Project Red Dress works to raise awareness of women's heart disease.

"I have made so many great friends in Jonesboro. I don't even know how many times I come here anymore. Whenever I come here I eat at the same restaurants, I meet new people, I have great friends," said Catherine Hickland.

You may have seen Catherine Hickland play the sassy Lindsay Rappapport on ABCs One Life To Live, but you may also see her in Jonesboro over the next couple of days promoting Project Red Dress.

"I lost my father to heart disease and my mom has had open heart surgery twice, so I really have to be interested in this, " said Hickland.

The goal for Project Red Dress is to raise awareness of women's heart health.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women.

"Only 9 percent of women fear heart disease as the leading cause of death, so this campaign is to raise the awareness among women that this is important to consider," said Dr. Max Arroyo.

The red dress is the symbol for women and heart disease awareness, and you will see red dresses set up for the next couple of days at The Mall At Turtle Creek.

They will be accompanied by volunteers, and professionals with educational material available if you have questions.

"Get just a little bit of information and know how to prevent disease which is what we're shooting for," said Dr. Arroyo.

Proceeds raised through Project Red Dress will benefit the Cardiology Associates Foundation, and the money raised stays local.

Organizers say countless volunteers help make this event happen, and raising awareness is their motivation.

"For a long time we've known it's been a problem for men, but not so much for women, so we're trying to let people know that it is a vital part of our lives to have a healthy heart," said volunteer, Molly Simpson.

If you can't make it to the mall on Friday or Saturday morning, on Saturday afternoon there will be another chance to see Catherine Hickland and the beautiful dresses in the Project Red Dress Style Show.

It's Saturday June, 28-th at 2 O' Clock in the Fowler Center.

Tickets are $30.00 and  proceeds benefit Cardiology Associates Foundation.
