"The dollar is really hard to come by these days, so you better get it where you can get the best deals," said shopper, Vickie Jackson.

"In a slow economy, more people are looking to consignment shops to get those deals.

"We actually had record sales for the month of October," said Abilities Unlimited manager, Sandy McQuay.

At Abilities Unlimited, they're hoping it's an indicator of what's to come over the next few weeks leading up to Christmas.

"We're anticipating that November and December will actually follow suit on that," said McQuay.

McQuay says in preparation, they plan to add temporary workers for the holidays.

At  Talk of the Town Consignment,  they're already gearing up for what they expect to be a busy holiday shopping season.

"We have several people who ask for gift certificates.  If they don't find what they're looking for, they know to come back," said owner, Kristi Harrison.

Harrison opened her store in 2007, and like many consignment shops, has thrived in a down economy.  She's hoping for more success this holiday season.

"I haven't seen any signs of it changing," said Harrison.

At Abilities Unlimited, manager Sandy McQuay says signs of a busy holiday season are already here.  For shopper Vickie Jackson, she says consignment stores give her the chance to check off  even more items on those wish lists.
