Little Rock, Memphis Among Nation's Most Dangerous Cities

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Little Rock is the country's 13th most dangerous city, according to a new analysis of FBI crime statistics.

The 14th annual "City Crime Rankings" was published by CQ Press, based on crime stats released in September.  But the report was criticized as irresponsible and inaccurate before it even came out.

The report looked at 378 cities with at least 75,000 people based on per-capita rates for homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft.

The American Society of Criminology called the report "irresponsible."

Critics also complain that numbers don't tell the whole story because of differences among cities.

Detroit was pegged as the most dangerous city, replacing last year's number one, St. Louis, which came in second.  Flint, Michigan was number three, followed by Oakland, California; Camden, New Jersey; Birmingham, Alabama; North Charleston, South Carolina; Memphis, Tennessee; Richmond, California and Cleveland.

The top five safest cities, according to the report, were Mission Viejo, California; Clarkstown, New York; Brick Township, New Jersey; Amherst, New York; and Sugar Land, Texas.
