Tennessee grabs No. 9 seed in NCAA's East Region

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee earned a No. 9 seed in the East Region of the NCAA tournament, the Volunteers' worst seeding under coach Bruce Pearl.

The Vols (21-12), who were co-champions of the Southeastern Conference East Division and lost in the league championship game on Sunday, will face No. 8 seed Oklahoma State in Dayton, Ohio, on Friday. They are making their 17th NCAA tournament appearance and fourth straight.

Under Pearl, Tennessee has been a No. 2 seed twice and a No. 5 seed once. The Vols haven't been seeded as low as ninth since 1989, when they were a No. 10 seed.
