Memphis hires Ark St football assistant

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis is hiring Arkansas State assistant Jack Curtis to be the Tigers' safeties coach.

Curtis spent seven seasons at Arkansas State as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach. Memphis coach Tommy West announced Curtis' addition Friday.

West said the team was fortunate to have Curtis join the staff, adding, "Jack brings experience, knowledge and energy to our defense. He has coached some outstanding players."

While at Arkansas State, Curtis coached safety Tyrell Johnson, a second-round pick in the 2008 NFL draft.
