JONESBORO, Ar - The Arkansas State women's tennis team (11-5) won its seventh consecutive match with a 4-0 Sun Belt Conference victory over Arkansas-Little Rock (4-9) Saturday night at Three Oaks Racquet Club.
The Red Wolves swept all three doubles matches and won the first three singles matches completed to clinch the victory.
Jenny Herring, Elne Barnard and Leydi Zora all picked up a win in both doubles and singles competition to lead Arkansas State. Herring defeated Anne Weijenborg in straight sets (7-6, 7-5) at the No. 1 spot, while Barnard and Zora both won their matches in three sets. Barnard claimed a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win against Marta Gomez-Jordana at No. 3 and Zora picked up a 6-7, 6-0, 6-4 win over Nathalia Garay at No. 5.
Herring and Emily Laing defeated Chantal Coolen and Gomez-Jordana 8-3 in No. 1 doubles. Barnard and Paula Chelminska won at No. 2, defeating Weijenborg and Rebecca Van Den Houte by an 8-3 margin as well. Rone van Wyk and Zora defeated Garay and Fanny Lopez 8-4 at No. 3.
