Prosecution's witnesses testify about guns at trooper murder trial

VAN BUREN, MO (KFVS) - The prosecution continued to bring out witnesses in the third day of trial of a man accused of murdering a state trooper in 2005.

Investigators say Lance Shockley gunned down Sgt. Dewayne Graham outside his Van Buren home four years ago.

Officers of the court say some of Lance Shockley's friends remembered him buying a lever action rifle back in the 1990's.

They also brought out a witness who said he sold a gun like that prior to the shooting.

Prosecutors also brought out a munitions expert who surprisingly disagreed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol's own rifle expert.

The prosecution will continue bringing out witnesses on Thursday.

It could be a while before the prosecution rests their case and hands it over to the defense in the trial of a main accused of killing a state trooper.

Prosecutors showed the jury some pretty gruesome photographs from the crime scene on Tuesday.

They also brought several witnesses, including investigators with the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Court administrators says troopers showing up to observe the proceedings were asked not to wear their badges so as to not influence the jury in any way because this case involves the shooting death of a highway patrolman.

Investigators say Lance Shockley gunned down Sgt. Dewayne Graham outside his Van Buren home four years ago.

Graham was investigating a deadly crash involving a vehicle Shockley was allegedly driving that claimed the life of a man named Jeffrey Bayless.

Defense attorneys said in court Shockley was ready to accept responsibility for that crash but they say he had nothing to do with Sgt. Graham's death.
