BATON ROUGE, La - The Arkansas State track and field teams completed action at the LSU Relays Saturday by qualifying another student-athlete for the NCAA Regional meet.
ASU junior Carlos Mattis jumped 49-3.50 to place second in the event while qualifying regionally. "Overall it was a really good meet," said ASU head track and field coach Lon Badeaux. "This week I think we are a little further along than we were last year. Its good to have a few athletes qualified at this point so we can concentrate on training and getting people healthy while trying to get a few better performances and qualify some more athletes in the upcoming meets."
ASU junior Carolyn Lewis topped off a great weekend by setting another personal best, this time in the triple jump. Lewis placed third in the event with a distance of 39-2.25. The ASU pole vaulters had to battle wind difficulty but still had some quality jumps. ASU junior Jeremy Willis finished fifth on the men's side reaching a height of 15-7. On the women's side sophomore Erica Naeger placed fifth at 11-7.75 while junior Catherine Frappier came in fifth with the same height. ASU senior Amy Bowman placed fourth in the women's 100 meter hurdles final posting a time of 14.34.
The race posted slower times because they were running into a 1.1 headwind. ASU senior Brad Reach placed fifth in the steeplechase with a time of 9:56.74 while sophomore Henry Ndichu was seventh
